October Brunch and Escape Room

October Brunch and Escape Room

With October coming to a close, the Raleigh chapter of Geek Girl Brunch met up for a wonderfully spooky brunch, then had an afternoon full of puzzles at a local escape room. Plates Neighborhood Kitchen, located in downtown Raleigh, hosted us for brunch this month. As brunchettes arrived they stepped into Halloween themed décor and picked up trick or treat bags.

Plates Neighborhood Kitchen contributed to the spooky theme with delicious brunch drinks like “The Poison Apple” and a “Bloody Mary”. The conversation flowed as everyone introduced themselves and spent time getting to know each other. Brunchettes enjoyed games such as Nightmare Before Christmas Uno and very unofficial tarot card reading between eating and drinking.

After our delicious meal we had a door prize give away. Two girls walked away with some Geek Girl Brunch themed apparel.

Escape Room Time!

We then made our way down to Escape Room 5280, a local escape room that converted a house on Glenwood Ave into a 4-room adventure. A few more ladies joined us for the escape room that couldn’t make it for brunch. The large group split up into 3 smaller groups to tackle different themes. Our groups chose Sherlock, The Dark, and The Experiment. Each room had a back story and a mission that needed to be completed in order for participants to find the door code and escape! The groups in the Sherlock room and the Experiment room both completed their rooms before the hour was up, and the Dark room completed the room just seconds after the timer ran out.

Overall, we had an amazing time working together to try and figure out the puzzles. Our next brunch will be November 17th at Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending. We will be doing some glass etching crafts so we can take home our own geeky themed drinking glass.

We are also looking for a new officer. Our branch officially includes Durham/Chapel Hill. So if any interested ladies located in those areas in interested in helping create fun brunch events, check out our website or our facebook for more information on how to apply.
