GGB PDX – Magical Girl Brunch

The Portland chapter of Geek Girl Brunch recently gathered together in SE Portland to enjoy a magical girl themed brunch. The brunch was held at Nightlight Lounge and featured breakfast favorites like buttermilk pancakes, huevos rancheros, tofu hash and a few shared rounds of mimosas. With 60s music in the background and a delicious spread, it was a great venue to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.

For the activity this brunch, we set up a wand creation station, so that each brunchette could create her own magical girl wand. Crafting is for all ages, we say, and everyone had fun customizing their own unique pieces to go with their outfit. (Even the staff at Night Light wanted to make their own wands!) There were also magical girl themed stickers created by our officer Nori aka PopCrimes.

It’s always great to see how our brunchettes embrace the theme and get creative with their outfits. We always encourage our members to dress up as much or as little as they want. Our officer, Candice, had a very appropriate cell phone and another brunchette hand-painted her jacket with a Sailor Moon themed slogan – “Fight Like A Girl”.

All in all, it was a brunch worthy of any magical girl – and the brunchettes had a great time reconnecting, making new friends and looking forward to the next brunch. We loved having the opportunity to spread some Girl Power and make some new glittery accessories.
