GGB Ft Lauderdale – Fantasy Fans Brunch

GGB Ft Lauderdale – Fantasy Fans Brunch

March was a celebration of Fantasy Fans for the Fort Lauderdale Geek Girl Brunch chapter. Our brunch took place on March 11th at The Field Irish Pub & Eatery in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This was the perfect venue for a fantasy-themed brunch.

The Field is like a real-world Hobbiton, built around and with the natural landscape (i.e. trees). It’s got cottages and wood paneled everything.  Lush greens and earthy browns make you forget you’re in a big city in the subtropics and that a Spring Break-bumping beach is only a few short miles east.

This month’s goody bags, swag, and raffle items was truly an embarrassment of riches. Each brunchette walked away with a raffle win. A Hobbit’s Brunch coloring pages by CRAYonPAPER were set at each table with color pencils. Officer Meghan created DIY star wands for each attendee. A very generous donation by Lauderdale Comics ensured that each brunchette who attended left with her own Funko POP. A set of Game of Thrones coloring bookmarks from DJ Penscript went home in each swag bag along with mermaid/ dragon scale hair ties, unicorn erasers, mini dragon figurines, magical lollipops, mini-pinback buttons of The Neverending Story and Labyrinth, and other fantastic swag.

Raffle sets represented some of our favorite fantasy titles and series: Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Neverending Story, Wrinkle in Time, Princess Bride, and many others. Officer Cristy created DIY dragon egg nests for decoration and they went home to some truly deserving Mothers of Dragons.

Tote bags for raffle sets were provided by Fan Mail, a self-described “bimonthly geek subscription box for women.” Fan Mail has offered discounts for Geek Girl Brunch members and contributed to our brunch swag in the past. Suffice it to say, we are big fans of Fan Mail. Jordandene is another Geek Girl Brunch supporter and was a fellow contributor to this month’s take-home goodies. Her new magazine, The Sartorial Geek, was gifted to our crew (and to many other GGB chapters). We’d also like to send another special shout-out to our resident professional photographer, Sharma Shari, for generously documenting our brunches when she could just as easily just brunch and hang.

The Midnight Sun movie also donated some swag to our brunchettes to promote the film’s release. Thanks to Officer Aurora we’ve also gotten a couple of upcoming promotional screening opportunities. Upcoming are the new Tomb Raider movie and Strangers 2: Prey at Night.
