With Stranger Things 2 airing this upcoming October, Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix decided to fight the Demogorgon for our July Stranger Things brunch. Brunchettes were encouraged to dress as their favorite Stranger Things character or in 80s gear.
Escape The Room AZ
First, brunchettes visited Escape The Room AZ’s 80s themed Rec Room. What is an Escape The Room experience? Basically, attendees are ushered into a room that is actually a timed real-life adventure game that attendees “escape” by finding hidden objects, figuring out clues, and solving puzzles. Don’t worry; while the room is locked, attendees can hit a button to exit the game. The goal is to find all the keys that unlock the door in one hour or less.
Our adventurous brunchettes had to play the Atari video game PONG, solve 80s trivia and go back to our “Let’s Get Physical” roots in order to find all the clues that eventually unlocked the exit door. Our gamekeeper told us that only about 20% of the participants manage to escape the room – and we did it in 47 minutes and 39 seconds! We’re pretty proud of ourselves.
Brunch at Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila
Second, brunchettes had tacos and margaritas at Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila while discussing their high side ponytails, the comeback of the scrunchie, and Eleven’s craving for Eggo waffles. Geek Girl Brunchettes also received a sampling of FanMail swag – a sneak peek of Julia Vanishes, the first book in the Witch’s Child trilogy, written by Catherine Egan.
See You Next Time!
We’re excited to welcome new brunchettes to the Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix chapter! Did you snap a photo of our brunch? Make sure to tag GGB Phoenix on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or use our hashtag #ggbphx.
Our next meetup is a Superheroes and Villains brunch. See you there!
