The Charlotte chapter of Geek Girl Brunch officially launched with its very first brunch on March 18 at Tupelo Honey Cafe. With the brand new “Beauty and the Beast” premiering just one day before our brunch, our theme seemed obvious: Beauty and the BRUNCH!
Tupelo Honey Cafe felt like the perfect location for our Disney inspired brunch. The inside decor was reminiscent of Belle’s provincial cottage and for our Southern girls, the menu was perfect! Biscuits and blackberry jam with lots and lots of eggs, bacon and grits.
Our band of 17 lovely ladies took over a large table against the windows of Tupelo Honey Cafe and immediately hit it off. Hardly any of us knew each other and it felt like we had known each other for ages by the end of it. We bonded over our love of all things Disney, and many more fandoms like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Marvel, and video games.
Everyone showed up in their best Disney or princess gear. There were so many impressive outfits! The Charlotte brunchettes definitely know how to dress. We had Jasmine, Belle, Leia (who is a Disney Princess now!) and even an Alice.
While waiting for our food and in between conversations we did Disney themed word searches and other games. We also had swag bags for each brunchette that included “Gray Stuff” (sugar scrub) and Enchanted Rose soap.
We were overwhelmed and humbled with the support of the Charlotte geek community and how many people attended our first brunch. We can’t wait to have our next one!
