Geek Girl Brunch Gainesville Watches Cartoons
Gainesville’s Saturday Morning Cartoons Brunch
Gainesville brunchettes channeled their inner Helga Patakis and Power Puff Girls to celebrate Saturday morning cartoons for their first meetup of 2020! Northwest Grille, a Gainesville staple known for its Bloody Mary bar, was the host venue.
“Saturday morning cartoons” began airing in the 1960s, with shows like Superman, Space Ghost and Josie and the Pussycats. Hanna-Barbera cartoons became widely successful as thousands of kids watched them with sugary cereal in-hand. The 1990s ended the era, but Gainesville brunchettes remember the shows from that time period fondly.
Gainesville brunchettes were polled, and the four most popular Saturday morning cartoons were X-Men, SpongeBob SquarePants, Looney Toons and Gargoyles.
Three members – Laura, Alyssa and Sierra – really took the theme to heart and came to brunch in cosplay! Alyssa and Sierra were Seto Kiba and Yami Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh. Who can forget the watching the 4Kids dub on Saturday morning? Laura repped Supernatural and Scooby-Doo.
Normally, swag bags are given out at brunch, but Officers Emily and Megan wanted to try something different. Each brunchette received a folder of their choice adorned with Nickelodeon characters. We also raffled off a planner and binder decorated with Nicktoons.
