Geek Girl Brunch Gainesville Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Gainesville’s Rubber Duck Anniversary Brunch

Gainesville’s August brunch was a special one because it was the 1 year anniversary of Geek Girl Brunch Gainesville! The venue for this brunch was Emiliano’s Café, a Spanish staple of downtown Gainesville.

For some brunchettes this was their twelfth brunch, and for others, it was their first. It was great to reminisce and get to know our newest members.

Choosing a rubber duck theme was easy. Since its inception, all GGB Gainesville swag bags have had a themed rubber duck. The swag bags for this brunch had duck stickers, candy, tea, bubbles and two rubber ducks that Officer Emily had personally won from claw machines.

Quack!

Chocolate cupcakes topped with duckies were shared among members in addition to $3 mimosas.

It’s been quite the journey for Officers Emily and Megan. A year ago, this group was just an idea in their heads. They wanted a place for women with similar interests to make friends, support each other, and have a good time with. This chapter was able to grow with help from our members’ word of mouth. Emily and Megan are thankful and blessed to have found such an amazing group of women.

Here are personal statements from the officers themselves:

I’m so happy to be a part of Geek Girl Brunch Gainesville (and now Geek Girl Brunch HQ!). It’s truly a pleasure to brunch with these ladies every month. I’ve made friends with the most kind, funny, interesting, and nerdy women. I’m looking forward to this next year with GGBG and whatever the future brings.

Officer Emily

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year already! I’m so glad I’ve been a part of bringing all these wonderful nerdy ladies together. We have been hearing about other hangout options besides brunching, and I am ready for what adventures the next year will bring!

Officer Megan
