GGB Reno’s “It’s Not Easy Being Green” Brunch
Geek Girl Brunch Reno’s very first St. Patrick’s day themed brunch was a hit!
Twelve brunchettes, sporting their green attire, gathered to honor their favorite green characters.
Starting off the discussion strong, Officer Julie acknowledged the classics: Oscar the Grouch, The Green Giant and Little Sprout. She loves the “Grouch Anthem” from the Sesame Street movie Follow that Bird.
Danielle likes the character Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. by Pixar. She also mentioned Herman Munster, Kermit, Yoda and Slimer from the Ghostbusters Reboot. She watched the She Hulk cartoon as a child.
Ami’s favorite color is green and she loves frogs, so it’s no surprise that her favorite Muppets are Kermit and Robin. An anime fan, she highly recommended Sergeant Frog and called it a MUST WATCH.
Nuriko has a fine appreciation of the Muppets and her MUST WATCH is Kermit’s Swamp Years. She also expressed her love for Gremlins because there is always something new to laugh at when re-watching the movies. The first to mention the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT), one of her favorite characters is Mikey’s Ice Cream Kitty.
Lindsey is a fan of the first two Shrek movies. She has a wide range of favorites, from Oliver Queen on Arrow to Hal Jordon of Green Lantern. Yoshi and Luigi got shout-outs, as did Gamora, She Hulk, and M&M’s spokecandy Ms. Green.
Officer Kayla grew up with Yoda as her favorite green character and loved TMNT as a child. Some of her other favorite green characters included Invader Zim, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora. and Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z abridged version.
Mary, Kayla’s mom, loves Yoda and likes to quote him or speak like him especially with her daughter. She checked the other brunchettes to see if they had seen one of her favorite Bollywood films called Bahubali and recommended it to those who hadn’t.
Beth, a first time brunch attendee, stated that Elliot from Pete’s Dragon was a favorite. She also liked Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. and Elphaba from Wicked.
Janet loves Grr from Invader Zim. Normally, Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants is a good representation of her personality but that when she gets peckish for high calorie food and mischief, she becomes like Grr. She likes Oscar the Grouch and Kermit. A music fan, she mentioned the green used in Rob Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe Cover, continuing the trend of being the first to bring up a different genre of entertainment from our Febru-Eerie Brunch.
Though she liked Jim Carrey’s Grinch, Kati still prefers the original cartoon better. She hasn’t seen the Cumberbatch rendition yet but would like to. Jim Carrey’s The Mask is another green character she listed. Her favorite TMNT is Donatello.
Officer Vanessa was listening to
“Somewhere That’s Green” and “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space” from the Little Shop of Horrors soundtrack to prepare for the brunch. Legend of Zelda is her all time favorite game series so little green Link has been a part of her life since she was a young one playing the hell out of Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link. She also gave quick shouts out for Beast Boy, one of her daughter’s favorite heroes, and Godzilla.
Jan, of the incredible Boushh costume from our October Cosplay Brunch, joins us once again! Her favorite green characters included the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Great Gazoo, who she credited with starting her interest in aliens and described as the bridge between the Flintstones and the Jetsons.
Everyone had a blast sharing their passion for their favorite green character. As brunch favorite Kermit the frog would say,
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am green and it’ll do fine
It’s beautiful
And I think it’s what I want to be
The brunchettes extended the GGB experience by going to a showing of Captain Marvel, keeping to the theme since the Kree uniforms are green.
Officer Angela, who thinks Captain Planet is the greenest character (get it?), couldn’t make it to the brunch but was able to join in the movie fun and coo over the adorable kitty cat Flerken.
In a surprising twist, no one mentioned the Trickster God or the most ambitious of Hogwarts Houses! This mistake is noted and will be rectified at our “Anglophile April” brunch.
