GGB Philly – December Geeky Gift Exchange
December for GGB Philly means our much-anticipated Annual Geeky Gift Exchange. Brunchettes met at Love City Brewing for an afternoon of friends, food trucks, and festive fandom!
Geeky Gift Exchange
Brunchettes who chose to participate in our Geeky Gift Exchange brought wrapped items from a fandom they love (under $10). The wrapped gifts were set out for members to look at and try to guess what might be inside. When it was time to start, the member with the closest birthday was the first to pick from the pile. Kim’s birthday had just passed, so she started the game off by choosing a present to unwrap. The next Brunchette to choose was the person who brought the gift she opened. They either stole an open gift or unwrapped a new gift! The game continued until all participants had a chance to either steal or open a gift and all gifts were opened.
After several steals and even more laughs, everyone got to take home a piece of fandom fun! Doctor Who, Marvel, Star Trek, and Jurassic Park were just a few of the themes that Brunchettes unwrapped and then took home for their collections.
Food Truck Fun!
Love City Brewing is not the typical brunch venue, but Philadelphia Brunchettes have really taken a shine to the place since our Board Game Brunch in August. The large open space of the warehouse turned brewery is a perfect meeting place for a large group. Love City reserves picnic tables inside for us to spread out and enjoy our food and drink. Beer and cocktails were available at the expansive bar and enjoyed by a number of Brunchettes. Some tried beer flights while others had seasonal cocktails or brewery specials.
A rotating selection of food trucks pull in and park right inside the brewery for some very good eats! Hawker was on site during our Sunday brunch, and offers mix ‘n’ match bao buns, curries, and wonton chips. Brunchettes can order and eat at their leisure and even go back for some delicious Matcha Green Tea Beingets for dessert. The beingets were so good we actually cleaned them out for the day only an hour and a half after opening!
Swag!
As an end of the year holiday treat officers brought a selection of trinkets for Brunchettes to look over and grab some extra fandom swag. Things like mouse pads, coloring books, plushies, and t-shirts that ranged a multitude of fandoms went home with our Brunchettes in addition to their Gift Exchange presents.
