GGB San Antonio’s September Gaming et al Brunch!

GGB San Antonio’s September Gaming et al Brunch!

Gaming et al with GGB San Antonio!

September brought a rather unusual “brunch” to the San Antonio chapter this year. For one, it wasn’t exactly a brunch, and two, the day was wet and soggy as ever. Our gathering this month was hosted by Knight Watch Games on Blanco Road, a welcome sanctuary from the storm brewing outside. This is the second time that Knight Watch Games has hosted an event for us, as they are very supportive of Geek Girl Brunch San Antonio — one of our original brunchettes being one of the owners. They have plenty of events that our members regularly attend (like the monthly “Ladies Knight Out!“) and the owners go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome.

Our Gaming et al event took place over the course of six hours. That’s right, SIX. Needless to say, pizza and snacks were in order. We had Domino’s pizza brought in, but some of our girls took initiative and brought in cupcakes, chips, cookies and dip for us all to share. Knight Watch Games even provided complementary coffee and tea!

This gathering was made even more special because we were able to celebrate the birthday of one of the Co-Owners, Pairic (pronounced Poor-Rick), pictured with his wife, Brenda, above.

Speaking of Brenda, this lovely lady went above and beyond for our group. She asked for volunteers of the monthly Ladies Knight Out! event to come in that day and teach our brunchettes how to play a ton of games. Below are the games that were set out for us to learn. They included the titles: Innovation Deluxe, Cat Lady, Photosynthesis, Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, Tiny Epic Quest, and Ex Libris

Our girls spent hours learning to play, teaching others to play, and enjoying each other’s company. With such an extended event (and no one wanting to leave because of the downpour), the girls of Geek Girl Brunch San Antonio had the chance to play several rounds of any single game or the opportunity to flit around trying multiple games that day.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a San Antonio brunch event without a raffle! Not only did we have three very cool prizes, including an exclusive set of cards for Necronomicards only available as a reward for being a Kickstarter backer, we also delivered the 3-Year Anniversary basket that we raffled off at the conclusion of our anniversary event last month. Congratulations to all our winners!

Along with games, food, and doorprizes, our San Antonio Brunchettes did an exceptional job with bringing things for our grab bags. Included in the grab bags this month were, among other things, decks of Magic the Gathering cards, a tile coaster, candy, and a sticker from our host, Knight Watch Games!

Unfortunately, we did not get a group picture of all our girls since people were coming and going over the course of six hours, but we did get the next best thing: Officer Amanda playing with one of the huskies that roam around Knight Watch Games.
