GGB Fairfield: Comics and Margaritas Event

GGB Fairfield: Comics and Margaritas Event

The stars perfectly aligned this year for the brunchettes of GGB Fairfield – Free Comic Book Day landed on Cinco de Mayo.  Only one plan made sense – pick up a bunch of free comics and get margaritas!

We met outside a local comic shop, Alternate Universe in Milford, CT, on that hot Saturday morning.  The store hadn’t even opened yet and a line was forming around the block, but all of us got in line to collect our free swag and pick up a few purchases to support our local shop.  The store is small, so only a few people were let in at a time, resulting in our girls getting split up, but it allowed us to gather afterward to show what we picked out.  Some of us picked out newer stories to venture into, like Shadowman, while others fed their guilty pleasures with Riverdale, and some got a deeper look into their gamer universe with Overwatch.  Some of us also indulged in Adventure Time to celebrate our totally mathematical time.

We then ventured down to Joey C’s Roadhouse to fill up on nachos and margaritas.  We talked about Avengers Infinity War, without giving away spoilers, book recommendations, and a few of us even fangirled over Supernatural and whether or not it will ever actually end – not that we want it to, of course.  We then tried to take some selfies with a polaroid camera and we were mildly successful.

Many of us weren’t ready to end our adventure for free comic book day, and we headed to Cave Comics in Newtown, CT.  They had some free comic books the other store didn’t have, we got awesome Free Comic Book Day stickers, and chatted it up with some other fellow comic book lovers.  Brunchettes helped other brunchettes pick out comic books they may like, and hopefully, we made some into comic book converts.

No Free Comic Book Day/Cinco de Mayo crossover would be complete without topping off the day getting ice cream at one of the best creameries in CT, Ferris Acres.  We all bought a ridiculous amount of ice cream, ate it all, and then almost regretted it because we were so full, but it was totally worth it.  Then we headed home with all our new comics and our full stomachs after a good long day of Geek Girl fun.
