GGB StL: Marvel’s Deadliest Showdown Brunch
Marvel’s Deadliest Showdown Brunch!
With the release of Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2 and the upcoming release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, May seemed the perfect time to have a Marvel brunch. 15 of our Marvel loving brunchettes showed up to discuss all things Marvel, and somehow we accomplished this without any spoilers! It was impressive, to say the least.
A Fine Swine BBQ
We were hosted by the super yummy A Fine Swine BBQ, located in New Baden, IL. They are a competition BBQ restaurant who sources their products from the local community and everything is prepared fresh daily! The food included pulled pork, Texas brisket, competition ribs, smoked turkey and chicken, pitmaster nachos, smoked buffalo chicken deviled eggs, brisket eggrolls, mac n cheese that was to die for, baked potato salad, and so much more. To top it all off, they also had a fresh lemonade bar that included flavors like the classic strawberry lemonade and a hot & spicy jalapeño lemonade. With a resume of awards spanning across 18 different states, I would have to say that their food is definitely worth the stop if you’re ever in town!
Good Food & Good Company
To change things up a bit, we all worked on a Marvel themed crossword puzzle (shout out to Jordan Dene of the Sartorial Geek) while we brunched. We discussed our favorite Marvel movies like The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, Captain America, and Thor, our favorite Marvel television shows like Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage, and Daredevil, and the intimidating universe that is Marvel comics. It also seemed that there was a mutual dislike among most of the brunchettes when it came to any of the Spiderman movies prior to Spiderman: Homecoming. It got us thinking, is this universal?
The Good Stuff
GGB StL received an amazing donation this month from a local comic book store named Star Clipper to use as swag for our Marvel brunch. We cannot thank them enough for the kindness that they have shown our little chapter! They were amazing and supplied our brunch with enough Marvel themed swag that each brunchette in attendance got to leave with something.
There were graphic novels, action figures, gift cards, key chains, magnets, mystery mini pops, mugs, and so much more. Since it felt like Christmas in May, each gift was wrapped up and placed under the Groot(mas) tree, because how else do you make swag festive at a Marvel themed brunch?
To top it off, our newest officer was announced after losing one of our longest running officers of 2 years. We are so happy to have Samantha join the team and can’t wait to see all of the amazingness that she brings to the table! We also got to announce our very first GGB StL chapter shirts that we are so excited for! Our shirts are being offered in a large variety of styles and colors. It is something that has been in the works with our chapter’s officers for a couple of months now, so to see it launch was a happy day for us all!
