A Brunch of Thrones in St. Louis
Brunch took place part way through Season 7 of Game of Thrones and things were really starting to build!  What would become of Jon Stark and his crew?  Would Khaleesi form a favorable alliance, or would she destroy all in her path?  What would happen between the Stark children and the fate of Winterfell? These were all HOT topic discussion and more amongst the Geeky Ladies of the St. Louis Metro Chapter because We drink and we know things… It’s what we do!
We chose John D. McGurk’s Irish Pub in St. Louis to set the scene. Â Their menu included items like Bangers and Mash, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Fish and Chips, and both Irish and Guinness Stews that really gave us a sense of eating a Bowl of Brown in Westeros. Â McGurk’s offered a full menu and bar that allowed us to sit back, relax, and truly enjoy brunch with enough mimosas to go around.
We started brunch off by creating our own personal House Sigils in place of wearing nametags. Â Our officer Samantha posed the question of favorite vs. least favorite characters in Game of Thrones and it seemed that almost everyone loves Tyrion Lannister, Brienne of Tarth, the fiery little spitball we know as Lady Mormont, Jon Stark and of course who could forget Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, First of her name, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First men, Protector of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Unburnt, Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, Queen of Mereen! Â To oppose this were our least favorite characters, and while this was all over the place, some of the more prominent characters mentioned were: Joffrey Lannister, Ramsy Bolton, Sansa Stark, Gilly, Little Finger, Cersi, and Jon Snow (GASP)!
Â
Another one of our officers, Sophie, made some amazing Dragon eggs to give out as prizes. Â Each brunchette left with an amazing chainmail bracelet created by one of our talented members, and we even had a couple pairs of adorable chainmail earrings, a George R.R. Martin print, and a Mother of Dragons banner that left with some very lucky members!
After the food was all gone, the drinks were all drank, and the wars between favorites and least favorites was settled, we discussed the upcoming Eclipse that was only days away and some possible themes for our upcoming brunches! Â As always, brunch was an amazingly fun day filled with laughter, geeky discussions, and good company! Â Stay for our next event, which will be an All Things Studio Ghibli Brunch where we plan to slurp our ramen like Ponyo and discuss our love of Totoro!
