GGB Youngstown – Female Superheroes!
Youngstown brunchettes convened at Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts in Boardman, Ohio, for their second brunch on May 28, 2017. Everyone settled in, introduced themselves and we placed our orders – including choices from among over 50 toppings, including Spaghettios, nacho cheese, and crickets! We also took over Suzie’s chalkboard wall, adding our #GGBYtown hashtag as well as some comic book “pows” and bangs!”
As her movie was coming out later that week, the featured female superhero was of course Wonder Woman. The girls were welcome to pose for photos with gauntlets, crowns, and shield worthy of an Amazon warrior. Each brunch attendee also received a glass with Wonder Woman’s logo etched into it, a comic book featuring a female superhero, as well as Geek Girl Brunch planner stickers.
While we were waiting for food, we played a very intense female comic book trivia game created by Danamarie. Some of the prizes for this month’s brunch were generously donated by All-American Comics and Cards, a comic book store with locations in Boardman and Warren. Brunch attendees were encouraged to attend All AmeriCon, the comic, toy, and art show put on by All-American Comics and Cards that will be held in July.
The brunchettes discussed comics they had read and enjoyed. Squirrel Girl came highly recommended by a few of the girls. Some attendees came dressed in their best superhero gear, while others were more low-key in their celebration of comic characters. In all, the second brunch of the Youngstown chapter of Geek Girl Brunch was a great success. Our thanks to Suzie’s for hosting us and providing a great atmosphere for us to be wonder women!
