GGB DFW Harry Potter Back to School Brunch
This month, we met to celebrate all things Hogwarts, as well as the return to the school year, at our second-ever Harry Potter themed brunch. Urban Crust was again our host, and we had the whole second floor to ourselves. We were delighted to welcome some first-time attendees this month!
Brunchettes received Hogwarts letters, of course, but this year there was a twist – those who had been to our last brunch received second year letters instead of initial first year acceptance letters! For those who hadn’t been to our previous Harry Potter brunch, we had the first year letters ready. Nametags were pre-printed with houses clearly identified, and we had a fairly even house distribution.
One officer had made an Azkaban picture frame in case anyone wanted to tempt the Dementors to come find them. Some of our prisoners looked a bit more adorable than even Sirius Black (or Padfoot), though!
There were some magical raffle items available, including several donated by generous brunchettes. We had a golden snitch knitted by Jaimee, as well as nail wraps from Espionage Cosmetics. We also had house badges for all houses, as well as a Hogwarts badge. There were a couple of magical necklaces, Hogwarts patches, and a print with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as well as a Hogwarts wristlet. Hufflepuffs also had the chance to win an adorable hat and scarf set. Last, but not least popular, was a tshirt saying “My patronus is a unicorn”!
We finished brunch with a quick trivia competition – with questions ranging from the name of Filch’s cat to Gilderoy Lockhart’s favorite color. Our winning team, the Whizzing Fizzbees, got every single question right! They won certificates celebrating their knowledge of all things Harry Potter.
Next month’s meeting will take us from fantasy to science with a Rick and Morty themed brunch. We will meet up on Sunday, September 17, at noon in Fort Worth, at Reata Restaurant. Wubba-lubba-dub-dub!
