Happy Anniversary GGB Denton!

Happy Anniversary GGB Denton!

Our lovely ladies celebrated a year together with our most requested brunch theme, Book Blind Date! We went back to The Abbey Underground for our anniversary brunch, where they hosted us privately with a buffet and bartender. We were fortunate enough to have professional photographer Chill Photography present for the event. She did a lovely job making our event more magical!  We set up a raffle section, a book drop off, and bookmark coloring section and our ladies meandered around buying raffle tickets while sipping mimosas and poinsettias, discussing books and fandoms, taking photos with props and good friends.

We all talked and celebrated the anniversary, toasting to a year of friends, food, fun, fandoms, and mimosas. This last year our most popular brunches included our Book Brunch, Disney Karaoke, Tim Burton Halloween Fest, and of course Harry Potter Yule. Our first brunch ever was our Star Wars Brunch April 2016. We cheered on our raffle prize winners (BELOW)

We also made this brunch a Do Better Brunch, and donated a large amount of books to Texas  Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton thanks to Laurie Long, Community Health Program Manager.  After passing out our raffles, we got the anticipated event, the book exchange itself. We circled up and played a very Denton themed right and left game. We all laughed and watched pretty wrapped packages get passed around and around, sometimes forwards, other times backwards. When we finally stopped moving, we all ripped into our books with fervor. Everyone was excited and exclaiming over their newest additions to their collections!

Below are our winners and group shot. Directly after is our April Brunchette of the Month: Kristy! Read all the way through! Thanks to all our lovely ladies for their love of books.

April Brunchette of the Month: Kristy

My name is Kristy and my wife and I have lived in Denton since 2010. I grew up in towns all around north Texas. I am a teacher with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department in Gainesville. My first geeky love was Star Wars! Leia wasn’t just my princess, she was and is my queen!!!! I am also a huge fan of Doctor Who, Dresden Files, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Marvel…you name it, I love it. I love cosplaying and love building my own cosplays. I have a Dalek, Victorian Tardis, Sally and Jack(Nightmare), Harry Dresden, and Dolores Umbridge….more to come. I will say that the TARDIS is my favorite! I also love to quilt, crochet, and any other crafty thing. I found GGB on FB and have enjoyed every brunch to the max. If I could plan a brunch, I would choose to do a theme based on the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor. I loved the books and think there is great potential for décor and activities. Location would be outside, decorated with various mythical animals and angels. Activities could be pin the tail on the Centaur, scavenger hunt for Lucknows, Shings, Bruxis’ and Scuppies, also, mix and match make your own Chimera, and Creature Bingo.

I love being a part of this group and can’t wait to see what is in store for the next year!
