GGB Ft. Lauderdale: An Homage to Wonder(ful) Women Brunch
GGB Fort Lauderdale celebrated June with an homage to wonderful women and to (finally!) getting a big screen representation of one of comic books’ greatest heroes, Wonder Woman. This marked the second time Novel Tea in Wilton Manors hosted Ft. Lauderdale’s geek girls – the other time being our March Alice’s Tea Party brunch. We celebrated with fantastic pastries, quiches, and treats from Tartastic (absolutely to die for) and mimosas with exploding bubbles. We absolutely adore Todd and Rey at Novel Tea, and they love us right back!
Goody bags included Wonder Woman watercolor prints from Color My Kids Room (Etsy), bottle cap keychains from Sweet Annalise (Etsy), Women in Science postcards from Rachel Ignotofsky (Etsy and Amazon), and stickers from GGB Ft. Lauderdale favorite J Lynn Paper Co (Etsy). Giveaways included the Boss Babes Activity Book, a DCU Wonder Woman Funko, two Wonder Woman gift sets from To the Moon Candy in Wilton Manors. Officer Daniela’s decorations set the stage for a fantastic party and many of those decorations went home as raffle items as well.
This is the first of many brunches led by our new chapter officer team of four: Aurora, Cristy, Daniela, and Meghan. Â Goodbyes to some of our beloved longtime brunchettes and officers made this one bitter sweet… but we also welcomed new geek girls to our group. Officer Melany officially stepped down after a fantastic run as Ft. Lauderdale chapter officer. She’ll be relocating to Texas soon, and we’ll all miss her terribly. Brunchette Ally announced that she will also be moving, and has already started looking into her new location’s GGB Chapter.
We had a great time as we planned more summer non-brunch meet-ups including one at Florida Supercon. Also in July, Officer Cristy will be teaching some of our brunchettes how to knit at the North Regional/ Broward College Library’s Knit-Along program in Coconut Creek, FL. (The program is open to non-GGB participants as well!) The Ft. Lauderdale Chapter Officers are looking forward to the rest of 2017 brunches, and have already brainstormed a calendar full of themes and ideas for the upcoming year.
