GGB Phoenix – Disney Brunch
We have ears, say cheers! The ladies of Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix met at local warehouse-slash-eatery The Duce to celebrate our March Disney Brunch. This brunch was a fun mix of Mickey and Minnie ears, yum food and the best conversation. It’s starting to get hot here in Phoenix, so we were happy to be inside at this venue, and seated at long tables where we could sit close together and chit chat.
The Duce is a fun location with the slogan, where pretty meets gritty and produce meets prohibition. It was featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for its delicious food and interesting interior. The inside includes high-top tables, a lounge with retro bartop, a boxing gym and training area, a vintage shop, ping pong tables, cornhole and shuffleboard games and the original bleachers from Phoenix’s St. Mary’s High School.
Some of the items on the Duce menu include baked apple pancakes, cheddar bacon buttermilk biscuits, brown sugar bacon (secretly one of the biggest reasons for going to this location) as well as mac and cheese muffins. The cocktail menu includes strawberry limeades (made with organic vodka and muddled strawberries), black ‘n blue mojitos (made with blueberries and blackberries), and grapefruit mimosas (you can guess what the special ingredient is). In order to order food and drinks, there is no table service – our brunchettes got to order just outside the open warehouse doors by stepping up to the silver streamline trailer and giving a nickname with their food. Thanks to our Disney theme, when the orders were up we heard several Disney nicknames being called over the loudspeaker including Ursula, Elsa, Jack Skellington, Merida and R2D2.
To add to the fun, we had lots of fun goodies for our brunchettes, including these gorgeous earrings in a variety of colors from the Etsy shop Hand Drawn World. When Charlotte, the shop owner of Hand Drawn World, found out about our brunch she not only supplied these earrings – she also donated a hand drawn beach tote, which we used as a raffle prize. Please visit her shop!
In addition to a pair of earrings, every brunchette was given a pack of Disney crayons, a Disney mini coloring book, a set of paper Mickey Mouse ears, and a Disney Jamberry nailwrap supplied by Nasreen Wadid. If you’ve heard of the Jamberry nail wraps and would be interested in trying them out, please visit Nasreen’s page!
Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix member, Jennifer, also spoiled us again with her yummy chocolate bark. She made a Disney themed bark and brought enough for each brunchette to take home as a post-brunch dessert.
Toward the end of the afternoon, we started raffling off our prizes, and here were the winners:
- The beach tote
- The Minne Mouse journal
- The Yoda puzzle
- The Disney Fairies mini puzzle
- The Star Wars activity set
Before we left, we encouraged our Phoenicians to exchange social media handles if they made friends during brunch. We also put together a short video showing off the fun we had at Disney Brunch (click here to watch on YouTube).
We’ve already announced our next brunch: April 15 the ladies of GGB Phoenix will be at Alice’s Tea Party! If you haven’t already, please follow us on Twitter, Instragram and Facebook!
