GGB DFW Graphic Novels and Comics Brunch
This month’s brunch was all about graphic novels and comics! We met on Sunday, April 9, at a new-to-us location, Bravo Cucina Italiana. Since we were in Fort Worth this month, we were glad to welcome a few new brunchettes who usually can’t make it.
We also partnered with smallCon this month to help the Women’s Center of Tarrant County. smallCon is non-profit organization founded by our president Danita, the other GGB officers, and some other amazing volunteers. It is a one-day convention that will happen this September in Addison. The conference will provide tons of panels and interactive activities to support and inspire women in a wide range of fields. Think science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and more! Geek Girl Brunch DFW and smallCon teamed up to collect donations for the Women’s Center Wish List Drive. Overall, the brunchettes awed us with their generosity. Together, they donated 7 teddy bears, 10 highlighters, 1 pack of sticky notes, 2 sweatpants, 15 toothbrushes, 2 bottles of body wash, 1 shampoo, 8 toothpastes, and 5 deodorants.
The food was absolutely lovely. The restaurant gave us a small private room, and we had our own private buffet! The chef came out to meet us beforehand. We enjoyed two types of salad, shrimp scampi, and chicken parm. For the breakfast-food lovers, there was strawberry cream cheese stuffed french toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon – yum! Additionally, they served us peach bellinis along with our traditional mimosas. Finally, the wait staff was stellar as well!
We had an incredible array of raffle items this month – our largest yet. Most brunchettes walked away with something fun. We also had a wonderful array of geeky shirts and skirts showing off comic book fandoms.
Our next brunch is on May 21 from 12:30 to 2pm at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History – and kids are welcome! This month, the theme will be Jurassic Park and all things science. We will provide fun raffle prizes, liquid nitrogen ice cream, a dino discovery activity, and more! Tickets include time in the party room, food and drinks (with specific ticket), and all day admission to the museum. Furthermore, you may explore the Museum and Planetarium before or after the time in the room and have fun!
