GGB DFW BBC Brunch
We met this month for a small, intimate, BBC-themed brunch at Via Real in Irving, one of our favorite locations. The BBC has produced so many excellent shows, from Doctor Who and Sherlock to Black Adder and Broadchurch! They may have taken a little while to come across the pond, but we love them just as much.
The ladies who attended brunch wore a variety of BBC-themed gear, especially TARDIS and other Doctor Who items. We also had some other British shows represented, including the IT Crowd!
One of the reasons we love Via Real so much is the amazing brunch food. Every weekend, they provide a full and varied buffet of breakfast and lunch foods. These include traditional and Mexican options, and brunchettes are always able to find something they like. Additionally, their dessert buffet is excellent and even includes a chocolate fountain!
As usual, we also had a number of thrilling raffle items. They ranged from a set of Doctor Who prints to a Sherlock Pop! Incredibly, we had one generous brunchette donate a pair of Neil Gaiman tickets to this month’s raffle. Of course, the officers immediately led the rush to buy more raffle tickets after this announcement.
In other news, Geek Girl Brunch DFW made an announcement at brunch about upcoming charitable work and drives. We will be participating, along with our co-sponsor smallCon, in the Women’s Center of Tarrant County’s Victory over Violence 5k/1k Run/Walk, to support the victims of domestic abuse. This will be taking place on Saturday, April 8, in Trinity Park in Forth Worth – please come join us!
We are also helping the Women’s Center out by collecting donations for their Wish List Drive at our next brunch. Please take a look at their wish list – new, undecorated teddy bears and sweatpants/underwear are high on their list of current needs. GGB DFW will be giving 5 raffle tickets for small donations and 10 for larger donations if you bring them to our next brunch in April.
Next month’s brunch will be all about graphic novels and comics! We will be meeting on Sunday, April 9, from 12 to 3pm at Bravo Cucina Italiana in Fort Worth. We all have a favorite graphic novel or comic, most of us have a stack to read, and there’s always something new coming out that catches our eyes. Do you have a favorite author or artist? What are you pumped that’s coming out and what is your favorite standby? Come out and discuss – and don’t forget to bring your donations!
