Sherlockians Unite!
January’s brunch for the St Louis Metro chapter required some Sherlock-level weather analyzation and logic, to say the least! The only consistency about Illinois weather is that it is never consistent, and when Mother nature threatened to send us yet another ice storm, our Friday evening brunch ended up being pushed to Sunday morning. Our girls are flexible though and thirteen of us were still able to meet up and enjoy each other’s company on a gloomy winter day.
We headed to The Abbey in Belleville; an adorable little café that felt more like a living room than a coffee shop. Cheerful servers, a cozy fireplace, and books, magazines, and newspapers galore, we all enjoyed our coffee and meal and will for sure be back! We’re hoping to schedule another brunch in the summer or fall so we can enjoy the patio outside, complete with a firepit and tiny garden gnome.
We started by introducing ourselves (since there were several new members) and desperately tried to pick one fandom to be associated with!  Over lattes and cappuccinos, we discussed the new season of Sherlock, keeping it as spoiler free as possible for our brunchettes who aren’t caught up. We debated the houses of Hogwarts, some of us bemoaning our Pottermore sortings, and others bravely defending their Hufflepuff or Slytherin status.  We dined on sandwiches, frittatas, and salads while discussing our current favorite Netflix/TV binges (The Magicians and The OA and the new NBC series, Emerald City) and ended up chatting until closing time, oops! Time gets away from us easily when we all get together.
In February we’re celebrating Galentine’s Day, complete with a Secret Santa style gift exchange! We’re really excited to check out Pieces, a new board-game café in St Louis that boasts over 500 different games to play. Should be a fun day out!
