Hitchhiker’s Guide to 2017 – GGB DFW
This month, we met for one of our semi-annual co-ed events for the holidays: a Hitchhiker’s Guide to 2017 at Zeus Comics and Collectibles! The theme wasn’t just limited to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Instead, anything related to space was fair game to end the year and prepare to welcome in the new one – hopefully without any aliens preparing to build a bypass through Earth!
We were able to feast on food from the Restaurant at the End of the World: tacos! In addition, we drank Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters and Arthur Dent’s Tea (which was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea). Most importantly, we didn’t panic! We didn’t forget our towels, and many even were wearing bathrobes (and one incredible purse made out of towel material with space themed lining) to celebrate Douglas Adams. Others wore Doctor Who, Star Wars, and other space-themed gear.
The venue was a perfect place for us hoopy froods to mingle and discuss comics, games, and other geeky things. The shelves were lined with a huge range of comics and collectibles, and the store offered us a generous discount. Additionally, Geek Girl Brunch DFW collected a number of items for Toys for Tots throughout the evening and gave extra raffle tickets to those who brought toys. There was even an incredible Marvin decoration crafted by John Frost.
The raffle featured some excellent space- and technology-themed items, including a planetary glass set, a Hitchhiker’s Guide to 2017 set of etched glasses and tshirt, some Robot Chicken sets, a stealth wrist watch, and a Samsung Gear VR. There were also various items from Espionage Cosmetics, Gypsy with a Purpose, Giulia Basile Arts & Crafts, Hylian Crafts, Project Pinup, and Sacari Art.
We also held a Dirty Marvin gift exchange with all sorts of board games, comics, electronics, and other geeky items.
Finally, we thanked Zeus Comics for all the fish as we left! Our next event will be Brunch: The Musical on Sunday, January 8, at 12pm, where brunchettes are welcome to nerd out about any and all musicals. This brunch will be an officer’s house in Plano, so make sure to get tickets to get all the details! In addition, catering will be from the Taco Joint, and we’ll be singing our hearts out.
