GGB NOLA — SuperWhoLock & Feel the Power
For September’s events we decided to host them in the comfort of our own homes, and it worked out so well! Our Brunchette Leslie hosted “SuperWhoLock” in the perfect Geek house. She and her husband are huge fans of a variety of fandoms, so stepping in her front door was like being welcomed home in the most comfortable of spaces. There were Quidditch posters on the walls, bookshelves full of the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, JK Rowling, and J.R.R. Tolkien. This was our longest brunch ever (from noon-6pm), and we couldn’t have asked for a better place!
“SuperWhoLock” was a potluck-style brunch, and members did NOT disappoint. We had 7% Solution Mimosas, Wibbly Wobbly Sangria, and Demon’s Blood Bloody Mary to sip on, and we had food ranging from sliders to to chicken sandwiches. For dessert we had the cutest monster donuts, a savory roasted pear & goat cheese dish, and Dean’s “The only thing that shuts my piehole is pie!” apple pie.
The conversation was wonderfully random and constant throughout the entire day. We talked about the evolution of Supernatural (who else misses the “Monster of the Week” vibe?), which Doctor got you into the fandom, and how agonizingly long fans have to wait for Cumberbatch’s “Sherlock”. There was also a good bit of Star Trek discussion, and we all got to practice our best “Riker sits down” impressions. At one point in the afternoon, we all took turns seeing just how awesome Leslie’s glow-in-the-dark embroidery was…any random passerby would have definitely judged the sounds of giggling in a dark closet!
Every attendee received a really cute set of SuperWhoLock coasters…our officers Kuniqua and Dom did a great job making them!
As is our GGBNOLA tradition, we raffled off some great prizes! Winners received a Supernatural necklace, a Doctor Who coloring book, a Sherlock detective’s hat & pipe, and a Doctor Who tote bag!
Our officer Kuniqua made a great video showcasing just how much fun SuperWhoLock was…check it out!

The September fun didn’t stop with SuperWhoLock…our officer Dom hosted a viewing party for Luke Cage!
Brunchettes brought SO much food for us to snack on. We had chicken tacos, chicken wings, chips & dip and nachos, and had more dessert than we could handle! There were cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and brookies to fill our sugary desires, and plenty of wine to wash it all down.
We hung out and watched the first 2 episodes of Netflix’s “Luke Cage” together, and the quiet commentary was the best! Brunchette AJ Zipper was genuinely disappointed that “Genghis Connie’s” was not a real place, and getting some coffee took on a new meaning for all of us.
Brunchettes, thanks for coming out to our September events…we’ll see you in October!
