GGB DFW Middle Earth Brunch
Our Middle-Earth themed brunch took place on a Saturday afternoon at Smoke Restaurant in Plano, TX. We were encouraged to register with fantasy names and our preferred Middle Earth race for our name-tags, so the room was populated with elves and hobbits for an afternoon.
Elf ears and cloaks abounded, and there were at least a couple of ominous Eye of Sauron and lovely Arwen Elvenstar necklaces as well. We ate appetizers and entrees from the wonderful brunch and lunch menu, as well as mimosas, of course, as we chatted about movies versus books, whether anyone had attempted to read the Silmarillion, and how wonderful the concept of “elevenses” really is. Each brunchette received a small framed copy of a piece of art by Michael Champion, depicting a sketch of Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee and a quote saying, “That there’s some good in the world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.” We also had a raffle with some fantastic prizes, including a nail-art package, a throw with a map of Middle Earth, a Tolkien coloring book with colored pencils, a Middle Earth card game, a One True Ring necklace, and a signed Samwise Gamgee art piece by Michael Champion.
Our next brunch will be Zombies and Horror themed on October 9th at Via Real in Irving, so get ready to try out your Halloween costumes and show off your love of all things undead and terrifying!
