GGB Boston Enters the Whedonverse
At Geek Girl Brunch Boston, we really don’t find anything much shinier than combining brunch and geekery! In August, the chapter gathered for a Whedonverse brunch to discuss vampires, celebrity sightings (including a subtle reference to Dollhouse) and mourn about the cancellation of Firefly. It was also the first brunch with the new chapter officers: Heather, Jess and Victoria!
The rainy weather didn’t keep away the hardiest group of the Boston chapter for a wide selection of good food for the Tavern in the Square at its North Station location. Among the selection was Elvis-inspired French toast, avocado-adorned breakfast sandwiches and spicy skillet potatoes. Needless to say, we also had some dinosaurs join for company. Though no one felt a sudden (or inevitable) betrayal.
Once the table was decorated in Saffron kisses and brunching was well underway, we had a raffle with some appropriately themed items courtesy of our officer Heather! Despite not having a Jayne hat up for raffle, we were able to give away a nice vampire stake — in case of a slaying emergency — as well as an excellent Kaylee-themed apron. For all of those ghorram baking needs.
Additionally, an edition of the card game Werewolf was thrown in the mix to keep within the monster-hunting theme. As a tribute to Wash, dinosaur stickers were also available for the taking. The dinosaur figurines took their place in the GGB Boston chapter vault and will (hopefully) reappear again over the next year.
Since Boston blessed us with some wonderful rain, the brunch ended up being a shorter affair, with everyone parting their own ways with full bellies and some pretty excellent swag in hand. Thankfully, the next brunch wasn’t far away, so chapter members needn’t feel as though they were leaves on the wind…
