GGB Philly Celebrates the Bad Guys at August’s Villains Brunch
Although this summer’s blockbuster movie, Suicide Squad, may have gotten mixed reviews, we all know that sometimes it’s way more fun to cheer on the bad guys. In August, GGB Philly celebrated our brunchettes’ favorite villains, whether from the DC Universe or some other fandom entirely, and we reveled in the rare opportunity to embrace the dark side of the force.
More than 20 brunchettes joined us at our “old faithful” venue, City Tap House, in Philly’s University City neighborhood. Not only is the food delicious and the space plentiful, but the waitstaff was kind enough to create a custom Harley Quinn-inspired martini for our brunch! Our brunchettes also pulled out the stops when it came to cosplaying. From an epic Nurse Joker to The Walking Dead’s Governor, Lady Loki and lots of themed t-shirts, our outfits were on point!
At the end of the meal, we were fortunate enough to have three raffle prizes to give away, including a Disney Villains mystery pack (donated by one of our brunchettes!), some sweet Lannister-style Game of Thrones sunglasses and a fantastic Geek Girl Gang t-shirt, donated by the company of the same name!
And everyone walked away a winner, because this month the GGB Philly Officers got together and used their crafting skills to create a new variety of hair bows — one each representing Harley Quinn, Katana and Enchantress, the bad-ass ladies from the Suicide Squad film. Brunchettes also got a complimentary 3-pack of Betty & Veronica print postcards, donated by Fanmail Box, and a recipe card so they could make their own Harley Quinn blue and red shot at home.
Although we collectively are sad to see summer brunches winding down, the faint crispness in the air signals some fantastic food and friends to come in the fall. First up? GGB Philly’s 2nd annual Harry Potter brunch — this time themed to the Quidditch World Cup — coming in September.
