GGB Phoenix – Captain America + Be a Hero
On Saturday, May 14, the ladies of Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix met at Harkins Camelview at Fashion Square to watch Captain America: Civil War. This movie theater has plush leather recliners in its auditoriums, wall-to-wall screens, and a gourmet concession stand – complete with baristas and bartenders. Our ladies met in the theater’s swanky lounge area to chat, eat, and laugh before the movie started.
One of the unintended benefits of meeting in such a public place was that our brunchettes drew the attention of other geeky ladies at the theater, who came over to see what we were up to. We gave them treats and fliers and encouraged them to join us at the next #GGBPhx
event!
The treats were sugar cookies decorated to look like the Captain America shield! They were provided for GGB Phoenix by local Etsy shop QZ Cookies. This shop is able to make and ship all kinds of geek-themed cookies, and they are all individually wrapped to keep the yumminess fresh. Our girls were able to have a cookie for dessert, and many of us made sure to take extras home for our family and friends. We encourage you to visit QZ Cookies on Etsy and favorite her shop!
While dining on the small, savory plates of food purchased at the concession stand, GGB Phoenix announced that our next meet up will take place at Phoenix Comicon. We want our brunchettes to have the opportunity to compare their “Conquests” – aka their schedule of panels and events – so that they can team up and conquer comicon together.
Right before the movie started, we were able to have a raffle, and the winners were given free opening-day passes to Phoenix Comicon. These passes were provided by Phoenix Comicon, and our brunchettes squeed when they won!
As part of this brunch and movie meetup, we invited participants to bring feminine hygiene products to donate to Luna Ladies, a local Arizona nonprofit that collects and donates feminine sanitary items to women in need. This was GGB Phoenix’s first time participating in the #GGBDoBetter campaign, and we can’t wait to do more!
Finally, when we were able to watch Captain America: Civil War, several brunchettes claimed Captain America or the Winter Soldier as their imaginary husbands. Before this conversation led to a GGB Phoenix Civil War we laughed, hugged goodbye and said see you next time!
We look forward to seeing everyone at Phoenix Comicon!
