GGB Kansas City Space Brunch!

GGB Kansas City Space Brunch!

On April 30th, 2016, Geek Girl Brunch Kansas City visited the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station in Kansas City.

We kicked off our morning with brunch at Harvey’s, which is located upstairs in Union Station. Union Station is a pretty cool place to visit, and we will likely be returning there for other events and outings. There are lots of things to do!

It has become a bit of our tradition for officers Amanda and Angie to make some swag, and this brunch was no exception. Amanda created some celestial-themed bracelets for each brunchette, and Angie created some amazing space-themed temporary tattoos and bookmarks. In addition to these, we had some fun space-themed conversation starters, such as: “Which fictional ship would you choose to take to space?” Not surprisingly, Serenity and the Millennium Falcon were popular choices!

Space Swag

After eating our amazing brunch and drinking a few mimosas, we went to a show at the Planetarium. The show was super interesting and informative, showing us many of the constellations that we can see right here in Kansas City during the Spring and Summer months, and pointed out the configurations of many well-known constellations around the world. We learned a little bit of the history of the constellations, how they got their names, and how sailors and ancient peoples used the stars to navigate and track the passage of time. Definitely worth a visit if you come to Kansas City!

We had a couple of new brunchettes join us for this brunch, which was exciting! It’s always great to see new faces and meet new ladies in our area. We also bumped into a few people around Union Station that showed an interest in joining us for future events. That’s what we’re all about!
