GGB Philly “Rings” in Spring!
Spring was as eventful as ever for the Philadelphia chapter of Geek Girl Brunch!
In March, we celebrated all things across the pond with our British Invasion brunch! More than 25 brunchettes joined us at the aptly named Moriarty’s restaurant in Center City where we had a whole floor reserved just for our group. We split the tables up into our favorite British fandoms, and the Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Sherlock tables filled up faster than we could say “cheerio!” We also had fandoms representing Downton Abbey and The Office, and even had one brunchette come dressed as Queen Elizabeth herself!
In April, we gathered at an old favorite – Jerry’s Bar in Northern Liberties (the same place as our Captain America brunch in July 2015!) – for a theme that was requested more times than a Hobbit eats in a day. That’s right ladies, we pulled out all the stops for our Lord of the Rings brunch and even worked with the restaurant to create a custom cocktail – The Shire – for our group. Nearly 20 brunchettes attended and the cosplay game was hardcore, with elves, Gandalf and Smaug “himself” represented. One brunchette even walked away with her very own Gandalf nightlight as a raffle prize.
And the excitement didn’t stop there, because shortly after our April brunch, the Philadelphia chapter celebrated a massive accomplishment by hitting 200 members! We are so thrilled to have hit this milestone and can’t wait to meet all of our new brunchettes, especially as we’re on the cusp of our one-year anniversary (June 2016) where we’ll be doing a picnic in Rittenhouse Park and welcoming as many geeky ladies as we can!
