GGB Fresno: Tabletop Brunch
April 30th was International Tabletop Day, which ended up being a lovely coincidence seeing as we scheduled GGB Fresno’s Tabletop Brunch on this particular day. The venue for our noon-time brunch (or perhaps more accurately, “lunch”) was Legends Comics and Games located at Fashion Fair Mall in Fresno. Legends Comics graciously let us use their gaming library and had just enough space for our group in their gaming area in between a handful of other gaming tournaments going on throughout the day.
We sold tickets to this event, which entitled our brunchettes to Blaze Pizza, soda, and cookies. Caesar salad WOULD HAVE been included had I, your brilliant co-officer Julie, not forgotten to bring forks! One of our brunchettes creatively used her pizza crust as a fork, so the entire bowl didn’t go to waste! Sorry about that, Melena! We also were happy to welcome a lovely new member to our wonderful group, Ariana!
Once the plates and cups were cleared, it was down to business! My co-officer Tiana and I were pretty much tabletop gaming virgins, but luckily we had an expert with us, our brunchette Tiffany! She walked us through the rules of a fantasy card game called Munchkin and we were so very grateful for her patience! We laughed over some of the interesting weapons and monsters in the game and enjoyed the friendly competition between us as we each tried to reach level 10 status. In the end, Tiana was triumphant!
After Munchkin was over and returned to the library wall, I brought out Cards Against Humanity. The laughter continued as we filled in the blanks to black cards asking, “Why am I so sticky?” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of ___.” Urban Dictionary had to be conjured up only a couple times as we learned that there’s more than one meaning for “The Care Bear Stare.” Our brunchette Adriana was triumphant in this round of gaming and we agreed we should play again soon.
We had such a lovely afternoon of gaming with our Fresno brunchettes and can’t wait to see everyone again at our next meetup in June, which will have a Game of Thrones theme. Thanks, ladies!
