GGB Austin – A Literary Affair
The officers for the GGB Austin chapter quickly realized that most/all of its members love to read. At almost every meetup we’ve had, the ladies spend a lot of time talking about books. So, it seemed very fitting to make our theme for March be “A Literary Affair”. The perfect location for such a bookish endeavor, was of course the popular local bookshop BookPeople.
The brunchettes braved the crazy SxSW traffic and mayhem to meet at the cafe in BookPeople. For this brunch we asked that people bring a few books to swap. We also had a blind book swap, which is where you cover the book and give a small synopsis on the front. It was interesting to see the different types of books that everyone brought. Many books were eagerly exchanged at the meeting.
As we drank our coffee and munched on our tasty pastries, we talked all things books. Such as our favorite books to recommend to other people (Ella Enchanted, Dune), upcoming book adaptations (American Gods, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), and of course, our all time favorite writers (Neil Gaiman, Tamora Pierce.) At the end of this meeting, everyone walked away with a TON of great reading recommendations! There was even talk of forming a GGB Goodreads group!
Thanks to officers Sandra and Mia, everyone received a book bingo card and a little stamp to mark their cards. You can find the book bingo card generator here, if you want to play along. The rules are simple, starting with the current book that you are reading, the first person to get a bingo will win a “special” bookish prize! Book bingo is a fun way to broaden your reading horizons and get out of your comfort zone.
As usual everyone seemed to have a fun time. The officers want to thank all the ladies who hung out and chatted about books. Next months brunch will be “Game of Thrones” themed, invites will be emailed out soon! Winter Brunch is coming!!
