GGB Fresno: Brunch & Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
Nine times out of ten, our Fresno chapter of Geek Girl Brunch has held dinners for our brunchettes instead of brunch, but for our February meetup, we decided to do a traditional brunch, which I’m sure Mrs. Bennet would have approved. We gathered at La Boulangerie, a bakery/café in the Fig Garden Village area of Fresno. We were delighted to meet three new members this month – Heather, Adriana, and Katie. Heather is a DC comics geek, Adriana is a Harry Potter geek, and Katie is a book geek. We proudly welcome them to our geek girl family!
Since the early February weather was lovely that morning, we got a table outside and ordered sandwiches, salads, soups, and pastries. We discussed such topics as the upcoming opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter park in Hollywood, Tiana’s recent trip to the NFL Experience in San Francisco, teaching (a few of our brunchettes work in the teaching field), tabletop gaming, and the upcoming schedule of “classic” movies being shown at a local theater. One of our members, Tiffany, came up with the great idea of attending the theater’s showing of The Big Lebowski next month, so we’ve decided to do that for our March meetup!
After our filling brunch, we headed to the movies to watch the newly released Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. We all loved watching the zombiefied version of the classic story. It brought us a lot of joy to see Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy battle it out after his failed marriage proposal to her! We unanimously agreed that the greatest scenes in the movie always involved Matt Smith’s goofy portrayal of Mr. Collins. After the film, we had a mini-discussion outside the theater, but the hot California sun forced us to say our goodbyes and part ways. We’ll see you in March for The Big Lebowski, brunchettes!
