GGB DFW Jan 2016 Harry Potter Brunch
GGB Dallas/Fort Worth hosted a sold-out brunch at Urban Crust in Plano, TX, this January thanks to the magic of J.K. Rowling. Back in December, members received an emailĀ informing them of their acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and requesting a return owl/email to reserve their place. To streamline the brunch, members were asked to use the electronic sorting hat and indicate their preferred house placement when registering. A vibrant discussion ensued on the GGB DFW Facebook page including arguments about house strengths/weaknesses and general noises of delight and anticipation.
On the day of the event, nearly 50 brunchettes sporting house uniforms, head girl pins, wands, and even wings (Hedwig!) were ushered to the second floor of Urban Crust. The head girl of each house welcomed each new member of her house and handed out gorgeous printed versions of their acceptance letters. Each student also received a magic potion, with adamant instructions not to actually open the dangerous mixture. We wouldnāt want accidental polyjuice transformations, especially in the vicinity of Muggles!
We had a number of new brunchettes this month, and we chatted animatedly about our love of all things Potter, our explorations on Pottermore, our feelings about books vs. movies, our agony that the upcoming Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play in London is so far away, and our favorite and least favorite characters. Although some house rivalry occurred, there was no unauthorized dueling and no one suffered the dire effects of sectumsempra or even levicorpus.
Urban Crust provided antipasto and a variety of delicious pizzas. Mimosas were plentiful, though some ladies also ordered the gorgeous frozen peach bellinis. Toward the end of the brunch, officers raffled off 20 gorgeous wand-pens made by GGB DFW officer Tiff FlahertyĀ andĀ donatedĀ wands of Bellatix and Hermione wands.
Thanks to GGB HQ, the GGB DFW officers, Urban Crust, and all the wonderful attendees for such a fabulous time! We are looking forward to celebrating Galentineās Day and all our favorite heroines on February 7th for our next brunch.
