GGB Phoenix – Anime Virtual Brunch

GGB Phoenix – Anime Virtual Brunch

Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix is actively brunching (virtually) in 2020. Our August virtual brunch had an anime theme, and our brunchettes were encouraged to represent their favorite anime via their shirt, cosplay or Zoom background.

In Phoenix, especially during the summer, opportunities to brunch virtually are a bonus way to avoid cabin fever. We love the opportunity to see our brunch friends. To try and make schedules work for members who might have weekend work schedules, we’ve rotated our brunches to take place on Saturday or Sunday this year. Anime brunch was on a Saturday, and featured fun conversations about our favorite animes (including Sailor Moon, the Black Butler, Full-Metal Alchemist, Black Clover) and our favorite geeky things in general (like a virtual tour of one brunchette’s “Star Wars room”.

Like many others, Phoenix’s comic convention this year was canceled due to public health concerns. During brunch, we talked about how many of our members have spent the extra quarantine time taking up new hobbies like knitting, cooking, and baking.

Our television viewing, including animes, has skyrocketed!

Prizes

When we brunched in person, Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix often found fun doorprize giveaways.

This time, we hosted a contest to win a ramen bowl inspired by Sailor Moon. The randomly selected winner was asked to tag GGB Phoenix in a post about why the love brunching with us. Scroll to the bottom to see their response!

We look forward to our next Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix meetup with our chapter.

Brunch on, ladies!

“In these unprecedented times we do more virtual meetups since we can’t meet in person. I miss my girls from @ggbphoenix. Where we can dress up or wear geeky clothes. Not be judged. Have a great time and it’s a safe space for us to be ourselves…We had a great virtual brunch today. Can’t wait ’til we can do these in person again. These girls inspire me.”
