Geek Girl Brunch was founded on, and continues to stand for, the principles of equality and inclusion. We know that the unjust killings of our fellow Americans, coupled with the intensifying inequities brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, has produced a clearer picture of the institutional racism that has been a part of U.S. history from the very beginning. We support and stand with those who are fighting to end the systems of oppression and inequality in the United States.

But seeing and acknowledging this fact is not enough. We urge you to come together in your communities and globally to make sure that you are amplifying, instead of silencing, the voices directly impacted. We also urge you, if you are able, to donate to causes that help further equality and justice in your community. Bail Funds in cities help protesters that have been arrested by police. Please also share any resources in your own communities in the comments below so that others can help where they can. Use what power you have to uplift those around you who may not have as much.

If you are looking for resources to help you to understand the history of systemic racism or you want to educate yourself in order to help dismantle the racist system, we have listed some books by black and brown authors. We encourage you to purchase these books from black-owned businesses, not just now but down the road as well.
