Houston Chapter Relaunches With Geek Pride Themed Brunch

The Houston chapter of Geek Girl Brunch relaunched May 25, 2019, with an almost all-new crew of members. We all met at King’s BierHaus, a German restaurant that hosts frequent themed events complete with special food and drink menus. (King’s often hosts geeky-themed events. In the recent past, they hosted an Endgame Marvel Trivia Night, though today’s theme was Rosé All Day.)

We chose Geek Pride as our theme as May 25 is Geek Pride Day and those who wish to participate in letting their geek flag fly are encouraged to wear clothing that represents their favorite fandom(s). We invited all Brunchettes to cosplay or wear apparel to show off their own particular brand of geekiness. We saw shirts proclaiming love for Bob’s Burgers, Captain Marvel, Batwoman, Batman, Star Wars, Fantastic Beasts, and dinosaurs. One Brunchette wore her Daria cosplay. Another wore her steampunk getup. Everyone looked amazing! Conversation flowed easily, with discussions involving Marvel, cosplay and costuming, Battlestar Galactica, Sailor Moon, board and video gaming, anime, upcoming local events relevant to our interests in the Houston area, and the new Batwoman and Batman casting (We seemed to agree that we will be disappointed if Mr. Pattinson’s batsuit doesn’t sparkle).

After enjoying schnitzel and waffles, watermelon salad with micro greens, charcuterie boards, German soft pretzels, traditional and exotic sausages, frozen rosé drinks, gelato, rosé-infused white chocolate-covered strawberries, strudel, and many other delicious options, the group walked to nearby gaming cafe, Tea + Victory. Several Brunchettes enjoyed a tea or a latte, and we began to float ideas for our next meet-up, including karaoke or returning to Tea + Victory to play games as the main event. All told, thirteen fabulous women attended the event, though some escaped our cameras’ lenses. We venture to say to say that we will catch them next event.

Thank you to all who attended for such a successful brunch! We had an wonderful time and we hope you did, too! For more information about the next event, please watch the Facebook group and your email inbox for the Evite. We hope to see you all again soon!
