“Ride with Unicorns. Swim with Mermaids. Dance with Fairies. Breathe Fire and Become a Dragon.”
For our 15th brunch, GGB Fort Collins celebrated mythical creatures! We convened at the Emporium Restaurant and Wine Bar in old town Fort Collins, which was very welcoming and accommodating to our large group. We even attempted to recruit some of their other patrons to our cause.
Our officers put together some extra-fabulous goody bags for this brunch! Each bag contained custom fairy earrings by SuperNova Designs, some fantasy stickers, a phoenix charm, a coupon from our sponsors at FanMail, some “unicorn poop” (nerds candy) and a business card from our GGB Boss, Sarah at Purify Spa. Plus, look at the rainbow bags!
As our ladies arrived, everyone was given a mythical creature to color, courtesy of brunchette Janelle – thank you so much, Janelle! Then everyone broke the ice by introducing themselves and talking about their favorite mythical creature. We kept having to decide if something was more ‘supernatural’ or more ‘mythical.’ Our final criteria was that a mythical creature had to be it’s own species. Curses don’t count (sorry, Gollum). Our ladies did an excellent job dressing up, as usual! We love seeing the outfits and cosplays that our girls wear to our brunches, and we try to encourage it.
For our first activity, each lady was given some pens and crayons and asked to create her own mythical creature. We loved our responses! Duck-squids, Pega-whals, Panda-corns, you name it! Our prize winner was randomly drawn out of the glorious masterpieces that we received. Ashlynn won unicorn earbuds, a seahorse keychain, two horse pins, a flamingo coin purse, unicorn chapstick, mermaid temp tattoos, a unicorn sticker sheet, and a mermaid mug!
Our second activity was trivia based. We showed everyone images of 11 different creatures and asked them to guess the name of the creature. Whoever guessed the most correctly won – and our winner was Erica! She won mermaid bath bombs, Burt’s Bees lotion, Mercosmetics body butter, a unicorn lapel pin, unicorn cupcake mix and $10 restaurant gift card.
Finally, we drew our raffle prize winner – Taylor! She won a custom pair of dryad horns from SuperNova Designs.
To conclude our brunch, we announced our next theme (Shark Week) and encouraged more help with our biggest endeavor yet: a table at Fort Collins Comic Con!
We are very fortunate to have the brunch community that we have, and we can’t wait to see everyone at all our brunches in the futures.
