In August, the ladies of Geek Girl Brunch Phoenix had a Superheroes and Villains potluck brunch. We met at an officer’s house in the East Valley of Phoenix, dressed to represent either a superhero or villain. We thought an epic battle might ensue but our villains and heroes called a truce so we could brunch! Our brunchettes each brought a potluck item to share like pulled pork, Captain America pizzas, donuts and – our favorite – mimosas.
Here in Phoenix, August temps are still hotter than 100 degrees, so we’re still very eager to stay inside! We made our Superheroes and Villains brunch a #GGBDoBetter brunch and had an arts and crafts rock painting party. We painted our kindness rocks as a small measure to bring happiness and joy into the world around us. These rocks will be distributed around the Phoenix metro area where people will stumble upon them (hopefully not literally) and be reminded that there is beauty in the world around them.
Rock painting gave us the opportunity to flex our creative muscles. Did you know that in a survey of children, 84% of kids test as highly creative at age four, but only 12% of kids test as highly creative at age 17? We felt it important to pause from the hectic pace of being an adult so we could do something fun, and spend time getting to know each other better.

GGB Phoenix is taking off the month of September, so we can gear up for an epic October brunch. We are also excited to initiate two new officers for our group, Michelle and Sara. To learn more about them, please visit our chapter page and read their bios! You can also tweet them some “welcome to the neighborhood” messages on Twitter @ggbphoenix! We know they’re going to fit right in here at GGB Phoenix because Sara is obsessed with Godzilla and Michelle is obsessed with R2!
