GGB Austin – I Put A Spell On You

GGB Austin – I Put A Spell On You

The theme for October’s brunch was a no-brainer, it had to be Halloween (duh). Our Halloween brunch last year was Heroes and Villains. This year we decided to go with Witches! Thus, the I Put A Spell On You brunch was born , because who doesn’t love Hocus Pocus?

We met at Goudough’s Public House, which is famous in Austin for their delicious donuts (more on that later). The restaurant has a pub like feel, which was perfect for this month’s theme.

We had a great turnout! Lot’s of new faces this month, and several ladies joined us from past meet ups. It’s always fun to hear how people find out about Geek Girl Brunch. Word of mouth and the internet seem to be the most popular. Our chapter has seen an increase in ladies who have just moved to the city and were looking online for new friends.

We decorated the table with spooky skeletons and bats. An awesome local lady illustrator created these very appropriate prints. They say “We Are the Granddaughters of the Witches You Could Not Burn”. You can find her Etsy shop here.

We also had our annual costume contest! Here are our three winners: mystical lady, Bad Pearl from Steven Universe, and Joy from Inside Out (with memory orbs).

Our grand prize costume contest winner received a copy of Monstress. Big thanks to all the ladies who dressed up!

And of course we feasted on donuts! This aren’t your typical Krispy Kreme donuts either. These bad boys are smothered in gravy, strawberries, and maple syrup! Lots of satisfied ladies after this decadent brunch.

We would like to thank everyone for joining us at the brunch. Everyone seemed to have had a great time. Join us next month for “Comicsgiving” on November 28th. Email invites have been sent out. Also remember to follow us on FB and Twitter for any updates.
