Kansas City Chapter is Bustin’ Some Ghosts Up in Here!

Kansas City Chapter is Bustin’ Some Ghosts Up in Here!

For our most recent meetup, the Kansas City chapter gathered at the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Kansas City to see the girl-powered version of “Ghostbusters.”

As we mentioned in our Deadpool post, we like meeting at Alamo for movies because they have a bar downstairs where we can gather for drinks before the show, then order dinner (and more drinks!) while watching the movie. Alamo also usually prepares a special menu to go along with blockbuster releases.

As we gathered, several Brunchettes were PokemonGo-ing, which was not a huge surprise.

The movie was a delight – many Brunchettes went into it with not-so-high expectations, but we laughed throughout.

One Brunchette, Sarah, commented:

“I had a blast! In a social media world, Geek Girl Brunch provides an amazing opportunity to meet new people face to face and explore similar interests. It’s a great forum for changing strangers into friends. My favorite line from the [“Ghostbusters”] movie was Dan Aykroyd’s cameo and his line ‘and I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.’ I also loved the dancing by Chris Hemsworth and others in the trailers. The movie was fun and light and I enjoyed the way it changed up gender roles and expectations. Thanks for planning the event and I can’t wait for the next one.”

Here are a few shots we got throughout the evening.

After the movie, one Brunchette mentioned an urban legend that a downtown KC building was used in the filming of the final scenes in the original Ghostbusters movie, so we walked around trying to get good shots of it. It looked like a close match, but alas, does not appear to be true. It was still cool to geek out about for a few minutes!

We continue to see familiar faces at some events, along with some new ones – it’s been exciting to see our chapter grow over the past year. We have some fun events planned through the end of the year, so be sure to join the mailing list so we can keep you posted on Kansas City escapades!
