GGB Austin – Comics and Donuts

GGB Austin – Comics and Donuts

Last week the Geek Girl Brunch Austin chapter met for a special “Comics and Donuts” themed brunch. Local comic book shop Dragon’s Lair Comics was kind enough to host us. We even had a room all to ourselves! If you’re ever in Austin, they are definitely the shop to visit. Their staff was super friendly and very accommodating to our group.

Check out this spread! There were plenty of goodies to eat. A special thank you goes to our GGB Officer Katie for providing vegan donuts, tea, and coffee for everyone to enjoy. Also, thanks to our brunchettes for bringing food to share as well!

GGB3.1Check out this cool sign that Dragon’s Lair made for our group! We even had people ask about our group and how to join after seeing the signs. We left a few business cards for them to pass out to anyone that seemed interested. Dragon’s Lair also put together some kick ass lady themed comic packs for us. Each bag had five single edition comics and one trade issue.
GGB6 The bags had first editions of Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Thor, Spider Gwen, and Black Widow. The trade ranged from either volume one of Saga, Bitch Planet, Rat Queens, or Pretty Deadly. Most of the brunchettes walked away with one of these awesome bags.

During the brunch we had a comic book swap. We invited everyone to bring issues to share and trade. Capstone Comics, a local comic book shop here in Austin, donated comics for our brunch. All the ladies left with a few comics as swag thanks to Capstone.

GGB7The round table of awesome ladies. It was fun to hangout and talk about our favorite comic books and characters. Everyone seemed to have a good time munching on donuts and discussing hot topics like the upcoming Star Wars movie and how amazing Jessica Jones looks. We had a quiz to see who knew the most about women in comics. The prize for answering the most questions correct was…you guessed it, comics!

Thanks to everyone who came out! Due to the holidays we are not hosting a brunch in December. However, we are having an informal meetup on Dec 3rd for Ladies Night at Austin Books and Comics. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more information.
