Nottingham’s Literary Brunch
We held our literary Brunch at Jamie’s Italian, which is in a beautiful building in the centre of Nottingham. They gave us our own private room off the main restaurant so that we could talk together without disturbing the other diners. The menu is very tasty, as you would expect from Jamie Oliver, & we all enjoyed our various dishes.
We had some new members for our second Brunch & it was really cool to get to know each other a little bit over cocktails & wine. The wine we were drinking was called Scarpetta – very appropriate for our theme! Each Brunchette received a hair bow of either Harry Potter or Alice in Wonderland.
A few of the Brunchettes were dressed as various literary characters – Coraline, Alice & Mary Poppins.
We chatted about our favourite fandoms, future Brunch themes, how difficult it can still be to be taken seriously as a female geek, crafting, gaming, & much more.
We held a raffle for a Firefly inspired cross-stitch, made & donated by Brunchette Sarah, and for a gift voucher for some glass ware, donated by Brunchette Zena from her Etsy store
We also took part in some colouring in of literary characters, & held a book swap.
During dessert we were treated to a reading from the debut novel of one of our very talented Brunchettes Sarah, writing as Riley Reynolds. (you can read her thoughts on the day’s events here)
After dessert a few Brunchettes had to leave to get home to other things, but some of us carried on with a visit to our favourite comic store, Mondo Comico, & a spot of record shopping too. We also couldn’t resist a visit to the photobooth in our costumes.
We had a fantastic time, it was lovely to see new faces. Hopefully there will be even more at the next Brunch in December.
