Once again we have to give a big shout-out to our sponsors this month. Our Retro Games Brunch was a success and every one of our brunchettes LOVED their gift bag. Thank you Sac Geek, Spirit Halloween, Pink Toe Press, MockingbirdMP and Happy Tutus for helping make our brunch awesome.
What is your favorite “Retro” game? Is it a game you grew up playing? Is it a game you’ve recently discovered? It’s Retro Game Month in September here at Geek Girl Brunch and we wanted to pay homage to the games that started our own obsessions! Whether Retro makes you think of the Atari, SNES, Dreamcast or Gameboy we want to know what games get that gold star!

S.H.I.E.L.D. called and we assembled… for brunch! Each brunch gets bigger and better. This month we had 29 brunchettes attend! Finding a brunch place that can fit 29 geek girls wasn’t the easiest, but Southern Hospitality in Hell’s Kitchen accepted the challenge. We have to thank Doris from Southern Hospitality for helping us orchestrate such an amazing event (and never once complaining about all of our emails).
Having worked in comics for over a decade, Kelly Sue DeConnick‘s body of work boasts nearly 50 titles. Most notable of these is Captain Marvel, a series that has garnered a massive and most loyal following.
Her latest series for Image, Pretty Deadly, is a breathtaking blend of beauty and brutality. You can’t know comics and not know the legend that is Kelly Sue and we were very fortunate to have been able score an interview with the legend.
Every time we brunch we get bigger and better. Our Marvel Brunch was our biggest one to date, we had 29 brunchettes attend! We’ll blog all about brunch very soon, but our brunch wouldn’t have been as MARVELous if it weren’t for our amazing Etsy sponsors. Each of these creators and sellers went above and beyond to make sure our brunchettes had fantastic swag. Without them our brunch wouldn’t have been the same. Geek Girl Brunch and all of the brunchettes thank you! Heart their shops on Etsy and follow them online!
Have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet? I know, right? It’s only the greatest Summer Blockbuster of 2014 co-starring Burt Macklin FBI and it made precisely 18 kajillion dollars and I’m here to tell you that you should definitely, totally, absolutely see it. For realsies. Right now. Go. Run. RUN TO SEE IT.
Alight, those of you not running- I will convince you!
It was a little under a year ago that we held a geek girl brunch at Macondo. It was only our second brunch. It was 4 people. Fast forward to this past Sunday when our little group had almost quadrupled in size to 14. (Not bad, eh?) Returning to Macondo with our ever growing troupe of Magical Girls, we filled the venue (half of their green room) with laughter, a lot of pink, and a wealth of new wonderful memories.
Geek Girl Brunch wishes to thank the amazing Etsy Sellers below for their awesome donations! We had our Magical Girl Brunch this past Sunday and it was… well… it was magical! Part of its’ magic was due to the sponsors; without them we wouldn’t be able to give our brunchettes all of the amazing mahou shoujo swag. A full rundown of our Magical Girl Brunch is coming very soon!

Brunch, as we all know, isn’t merely a meal. It is an event. And what fun is an event if you don’t have a super cute manicure to match? In honor of Magical Girl month, I’ve tackled a relatively simple nail art design inspired by Sailor Moon, chiefly the Inner Senshi and their outfits.
Gather your materials. Since I’m doing the Inner Senshi, I made sure I had a variety of colors that matched their sailor costumes. I also included a few lighter and darker shades of the core colors for highlighting/shadowing. You’ll also need a dotting tool of some kind (feel free to get creative if you don’t have one on hand — for a long time, I used a dull pencil), a thin detail brush, and a wider brush to help with clean up afterwards. Absolutely necessary: Acetone. Continue reading
